Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use an attorney instead of just working directly with the insurance company?

Auto insurance companies spend billions of dollars trying to convince you that you can trust them and that they are on your side. If you really can trust them, why do they compensate their agents and adjusters based on how little they pay out on claims? The truth is that no one at the insurance company has your best interest in mind. In fact, their interests are in direct conflict with your interests. When you hire an attorney, you have an experienced professional who knows what the insurance company is supposed to do for you and fights to make sure you are fairly compensated.

How much does it cost?

When handling auto injury claims, we work on a contingency basis. This means that we only receive our compensation from a percentage of the settlement proceeds. For that reason, you will never have to come up with money out of your pocket for our services.

Does the attorney receive any money for the payout on my vehicle?

One concern that some people have is that an attorney will take a percentage of the payout for their vehicle. When we take someone’s injury claim, we help to resolve their vehicle damage claim for free, so we do not receive any compensation for that portion of the claim. Our only compensation comes from the injury side of the claim.

How long will my case take?

The number one question we receive from clients is “how long will my case take?” At the beginning of your case, we do not have a way of accurately answering that question. My best advice is to take a deep breath and understand that the medical portion of your case is not a race. The insurance company should pay for all of the treatment you need to fully recover. If we resolve the case while you are still in pain or discomfort, you will be on the hook to pay for any future treatment you may need, especially when symptoms return. For this reason, we want you to make sure you are completely healed before we talk about settling the case. Your most important job during this time is to follow the direction of your doctors. Once you are completely better, we will be in a position to resolve your case for the greatest value. Even once you are through with treatment and we have sent a demand to the insurance company, cases can take extra time, for example, if the insurance company takes a long time to respond to our demand, or if they make a low offer that requires significant time to negotiate or litigate in court. Our best advice is to not plan your life around the settlement because we do not have a way of guaranteeing when the settlement will happen. There are too many varying factors to provide a precise timeline.

How much is my case worth?

There are several factors that affect the value of your case. Some of the most important factors include the extent of your injury, the amount of your medical bills and the amount of insurance coverage available. Remember that insurance companies will not pay for injuries that are not diagnosed by a doctor, so it is important to explain all of the symptoms and consequences of the accident so they can be properly factored into your claim. While it is typically very hard to determine value at the beginning of the claim, our aim is always to maximize the amount of your settlement.
